about 20 minutes away by car the charming medieval town of Monforte de Lemos
offers a local hospital, big supermarkets, all kind of local shops, good
restaurants, a lively night life, etc. This town was an important centre during
the middle ages and worth to visit are the impressive 17th century
building of El Cardenal (with paintings of El Greco in the museum), the
castle, palace and monastery of the count of Lemos on the top of a hill in the
centre of town (today a Parador, by the state owned Hotel) with a medieval
Jewish quarter, the convent of Las Clarisas with an important museum of
sacred art and the medieval bridge (Puente Romano) over the river Cabe.
